SCIENCE INDICATORS
Information Management
IM1. Characterizes types and transfers of energy to identify dependent and independent variables.
IM2. Selects information about types of energy to describe transfer processes in natural and designed objects.
Critical Thinking
CT1. Recognizes different types of energy, sources and transformations to provide evidence of the transfers of energy in given situations.
CT2.Uses pieces of evidence of energy transfer between objects to construct an explanation of the patterns found.
Creativity
C1. Inquires about energy types and variables that affects them to predict outcomes about changes in energy transfers.
C2. Defines specific problems of types of energy and their changes to design solutions about energy transfers.
Metacognition
M1. Implements the use of the scientific method to relate cognitive strategies with concrete actions.
M2. Designs a weekly work plan to identify metacognitive strategies that nurture his own learning process.
Law of Conservation of Energy
Energy can be transformed into another sort of energy. Also, it cannot be created AND it cannot be destroyed. Energy has always existed in one form or another.
We will be investigating this law in class through research, lab observations, designing experiments and observing the results.
Forms of energy
This trimester in Science we are studying Energy and Energy transfers! We will also be looking at variables, in particular, dependent and independent variables.
We will be investigating different energy types, such as light, heat, sound, mechanical and electrical energies. We will also be studying potential and kinetic energy and discussing the relationship between them and other energies.
We will be exploring and observing some of these energies in action in lab practices, and for the 80% will be working on and designing our very roller coaster to demonstrate energy transfers and independent and dependent variables.
Below you will find some useful videos and activities to help with key concepts that we have been learning this trimester.
RESOURCES
We will be designing and creating our own experiments in class to demonstrate energy transfers for the 80%.
